race to the top

Oracion and Emata had been part of a team sponsored by ABS-CBN, the country's largest broadcaster, seeking to put a Filipino on top of Mount Everest.

Garduce is backed by rival network GMA.

My lunch buddies and I were talking about how sad it is that there had to be separate teams that aimed to reach the Everest summit. They were all Pinoy but they had to compete. Hindi ba pwedeng umakyat sila as one team? Kailangan ba talagang gawing unahan ito?

Pinagkakitaan na naman ng mga networks.

Hay. I'm sure they had their reasons. Nakakalungkot lang.

Pasagot ah. The Philippine Everest team sponsored by ABS-CBN actually invited Romi Garduce to join them but Romi declined because they had to train abroad, I think for three years just to do the task. Romi had his reasons. Di siya pwedeng magdevote ng ganoon katagal dahil may trabaho siya sa P&G. Contrary to what people from ABS is saying na gusto niya lang mag-isa para nga naman first pinoy at the summit. The Philippine Everest team was supposed to climb Everest next year pa but when they learned that GMA was sponsoring Romi's climb for a cause this year, it became sort of a race. But I don't think there really was a race between the mountaineers. Actually, maganda na rin ang nangyari kasi naging triple treat for all of us.

Sori, ang haba ng explanation. :p
